Principal

St. Francis of Assisi School, a PreK-8th grade school in Northeast Baltimore, seeks a visionary, faith-filled principal for the 2017-18 school year. The Principal reports to and works with the parish pastor, is responsible for all activities -- educational and extracurricular -- of the school, and is the primary spiritual and academic  leader of the school. The Principal oversees the program at all grade levels to ensure that the academic quality, religious environment, and development of the students correspond with the mission and philosophy of St. Francis of Assisi.

St. Francis is authorized to offer the prestigious International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB-MYP).  The IB program is inquiry-based, with a global orientation and a focus on research, writing, and project-based learning.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the spiritual and educational leader responsible for oversight of all aspects of school life and operations in accordance with Archdiocesan policies and protocols.
  • Works consistently to enhance the quality of instruction within the school by selecting exceptional teachers and by fostering the professional growth of the instructional staff.
  • Manages or oversees day-to-day and long-range operations including budget, finance, technology, marketing and promotion, development, facilities, and student services.
  • Works collaboratively with the Archdiocese on significant capital improvement projects
  • Supports the school’s status as a unique destination within the Archdiocese.

Qualifications:

  • Practicing Catholic, fully able to model Christian values, adhere to the teachings of the Church, and participate in the sacramental life of the  Church.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission of Catholic education.
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in administration,  supervision, curriculum development, or education.
  • Maryland certification or eligibility for Principal (ADMIN II).
  • Track record of successful leadership.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in working with students and families of diverse ethnic, cultural, religious, linguistic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Exceptional communication skills; ability to inspire support for and confidence in school as well as publicly represent the school and advocate for support and funding.
  • Experience in fundraising and marketing a plus.
  • Ability to speak a language other than English a plus.
  • International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme experience or familiarity a plus.

The ideal candidate will understand the needs and capacities of children at various stages of development, will demonstrate strength in the use of technology, and will be able to enthusiastically support the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program.  


Lead Teacher: Middle School Language Arts

St. Francis of Assisi School, in Northeast Baltimore, seeks a talented, creative teacher with leadership potential to join our team this fall.  This is a full time, benefits eligible position.

St. Francis is authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IB-MYP). All teachers in the middle school must become trained through the IB in at least one subject area. (The school will provide the necessary professional development.)  The IB program is inquiry-based, with a global orientation and a focus on research, writing, and project-based learning.  

Specific skills needed:

  • Experience in the teaching of Language Arts
  • Maryland State Certification
  • Confidence with the use of technology
  • Enthusiasm for curriculum design, especially an inquiry-based approach

The ideal candidate will be able to take a leading role in Language Arts instruction while also having the ability to teach a second subject such as Religion, Social Studies, Math, or Science.  He or she will enjoy the unique capacities of middle school students and will be able to lead classes with both imagination and rigor.

Homeroom Teacher: Primary

St. Francis of Assisi School, located in Northeast Baltimore, seeks an enthusiastic homeroom teacher in the primary grades to join our team this fall.  This is a full time, benefits eligible position.

The classroom teacher provides instruction in core subjects -- Religion, Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies.  He or she is responsible for maintaining an orderly environment which promotes independence and creativity.

Specific skills needed:

  • Maryland State Certification in Elementary Education or Early Childhood Education.
  • Confidence with the use of technology
  • An ability to differentiate instruction for students so as to provide extra challenge and extra support when needed.

Secretary

St. Francis of Assisi Elementary School, located in Northeast Baltimore, is seeking a full-time school secretary to oversee the management of the school office and be the first line of contact for teachers, parents, students, and all visitors.  The secretary must project a professional confidential demeanor at all times.  This is a year round position, hours are 7:15 to 3:15 during the school year with reduced hours during the summer hours.  This position is available in July 2017.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Greets all staff, students and parents and assists as requested
  • Greets all visitors and provides direction to appropriate personnel
  • Responds to all inquiries and provides appropriate information, assistance related to school, office and program operations, activities, policies and procedures
  • Inputs data as needed
  • Generates communications, reports and lists as requested
  • Provides clerical support to Principal and teachers
  • Serve on the administrative team
  • Performs all duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Some college preferred
  • One year of successful experience as a secretary or administrative assistant in a school setting
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Word.  Familiarity with Google Apps and Microsoft Excel a plus.
  • Knowledge of and prior use of office equipment (copiers, computers, etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Practicing Roman Catholic preferred
