Letter From School Administrator/Principal

Welcome St. Francis of Assisi School Families,

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! It is a true privilege for me to continue as your principal this school year, and I am looking forward to the weeks and months ahead! St. Francis of Assisi School is a welcoming community and I am happy to call SFA home! I am so excited about this upcoming year and I am looking forward to accomplishing great things both academically and spiritually!

The mission of SFA calls us to bring to life, in this community, the values and vision of Saint Francis. Our patron saint is well-known for his emphasis on peacemaking and caring for the earth. The school’s location alongside Herring Run Park and across the street from Lake Montebello in Northeast Baltimore places us at the heart of vibrant city neighborhoods. Each and every day, the teachers and the students stretch themselves to do their very best work so as to make the world a better place.

We are proud of the school’s strong academic programs and innovative offerings. From the ever-energetic preschool, to our strong standardized testing scores, to offering the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program, St. Francis strives for excellence. Students experience the rigor of rich discussions in their academic classes, Spanish instruction from Preschool through 8th grade, and technology used everywhere to enrich learning. (And yes, they do learn cursive writing, too!)

“Not Just a School But a Way of Life”

St. Francis is an open, inclusive community where the Catholic faith is celebrated and shared. Some of our students have ancestors who immigrated here, and others are new immigrants who arrived as recently as last summer. In total, more than 45 national heritages are represented in our student body. The diversity of our community is a great blessing!

I am proud and honored to be invited to help form our children as persons of kindness, compassion and generosity. When I talk with parents about their decision to bring their children to St. Francis, they tell me, again and again, how much they value the sense of community. They recognize that their children will be known and cared for from the time they arrive as preschoolers in bright outfits and sneakers, to the time when they graduate from eighth grade, wearing their class ties with pride.

Come and see SFA — a place where scholarship, spirituality, and service are brought to life each and every day!

Many Blessings,

Dr. Karmen Weaver

Principal
