Art

In the Preschool and Kindergarten, students enjoy painting, drawing, and craft activities on a regular basis. These activities often are connected to content area studies, especially in science, social studies, and religion.

Primary and upper elementary grades have a weekly art class where they learn the basics of color, line, shape, and texture through paint, drawing, and collage.

In the middle school, the International Baccalaureate program encourages deeper understanding by developing conceptual understanding within global contexts. Broad concepts of aesthetics, change, communication, and identity provide the underpinning for students’ work as they develop artistic skills and maintain a reflective art journal.

Drama

Middle school students learn the basics of acting, choreography, and singing by way of two annual performances which involve all students in 6th through 8th grades. Often the performances are developed by the students themselves, including original productions such as “Dodgeball: The Musical” along with new twists on familiar favorites such as A Christmas Carol.

Music

Weekly music classes for all grades help students learn the basics of musical notation, rhythm, simple instruments, and singing.

Instrumental music is incorporated into the curriculum through weekly flutophone lessons (3rd grade) and a trimester-long weekly guitar class in the middle school. In addition, we offer an instrumental band with instruction as an extra-curricular activity for an additional charge.

The Young People’s Choir practices weekly and performs at masses and concerts. The choir also travels to nursing homes and other sites to share their music more widely.
